Private Initiative in Education: Scope? Potential!

Trade schools which enable a pupil to earn directly after 10th standard helps a great deal in India and this is what we need.
In all due honesty, there's not much you can do with a +2 certificate. If you go to school, for all practical reasons, you'll need to go to college to make your schooling meaningful. The number of years (time) and the costs involved in progressing from kindergarden to a UG grad is too much of a burden for most of Sub Urban India. ANd costs skyrocket in college- like 1- 5 lakhs for an engineering seat and 5-30 lakhs for a medical seat. These factors induce parents to send their kids to work (in fields, factories) early on. And at the rate at which the technical fields are specializing, for all practical purposes- you'll need a PG degree also.
It's not the cost of schooling itself which drives ppls from enrolling- but it's the implied cost of attending college AND the total time involved in this whole process which keeps the enrollment low.
If we had lots of nationalised trade schools and offered students a choice between the "academic" and the "self employment" route in say- 8th or 9th standard- it will be very helpful in increasing overall enrollment in schools. Plus you're also producing skilled labour for the future.
At the way things are right now, MOST ppl won't even think of sending a kid to school, to UG and then to PG unless they're making at least Rs. 5,000-7,000 a month. Is there really a point in studying up to 12th standard if u can't afford college?? Low income earners need quick money rotation. The creation of trade schools help people start earning quicker (at 16 yrs of age maybe) and they also give a HUGE boost to the national industry.
You can have all the best schools in the world but you aren't getting any desired social result till you have a healthy rate of enrollment. And you can't force people to enroll themselves at gunpoint either. Education must adopt itself according to the society concerned and the method I suggested for India is the best I could come up with...

Dr. Lalji Singh and the Negro
A badly trained scientist Dr. Lalji Singh has accepted foreign goodies such as foreign research grants travel grants in order to project the Negro as a missing link between man and beast. Indians will never tolerate the exploitation of the Negro. We know that even a poor scientist can link any beast to man. In India all know the motivation of this false theory, thus no chance of this this fake theory entering our borders. Firstly to exploit the Negro by digging up Africa for the "FIRST MAN" and not digging any where else. The aim to flatter the Negro and walk away with the resources of Africa. The other which will never work is to try to confuse ancient civilizations such as India into believing they are descendents of the "NEGRO". Older fossils do not mean they are the first man and other old fossils coming out of Australia have been hidden, we know why. Dig the whole earth for the oldest fossil of man if not the first man.

What do you guys think about privatising education in India? I just don't have much hope with Indian politicians. They would be the first to loose if Indians were educated and they are not stupid enough to shoot themselves. Some are good, but most just will do so much to disrupt progress in education. Competition amongst the schools will make the product(education)better and the clients(students)will benefit. We can involve NGOs, businesses(even MNC) and gov can just start the whole thing and get out of the way.

Hi Hotfusion,
That is a good idea. But we have to find a way to keep the cost down so that a poor man can educate his wards with less worry.
I havent come here for a long time now,, but looks like I didnt miss much.
Regards
Rashmi.

Just found out :
Some MNCs (Analog Devices, TI, Phillips etc) have created a few classes that engineering students at IIT can take. The downside : 10 out 10 students who took the classes migrated to the USA to work here :(
Privatizing : Don't think it will work. A Phillips spokesperson said : (paraphrased) : They wanna do something that will require least communication. In simple terms, it means : they would rather make India a manufacturing place than a design center. IF the design engineers wanna work for them, they can always apply for a work visa to the USA.
Personal Forecast : I think India will become a manufacturing plant, just like Mexico, Taiwan , Malayasia.
Indian companies like Wipro etc, just dont know how to market a product.
